Jordan :

“Watan Television (WTV) stopped its regular satellite broadcasts yesterday after a dawn attack by around 15 youths who caused serious damage to its Amman offices, station owner Raed Qaqish said.” The Jordan Times

The youth obviously belong to one tribe, who found that destroying the office of WTV is a suitable way to protest their inconvenience with a message displayed on the text bar on this T.V., which they considered as offending to their tribe.

“According to Qaqish, the station’s technical staff was unable to immediately remove the message deemed offensive because of a “virus” that took time to fix.”

“The message was broadcast for 27 minutes before our technicians managed to address the problem, and in the meantime, the staff started receiving threats on the phone, which made the technician in charge of messages to leave the station without informing the administration,” Qaqish told The Jordan Times.

He estimated the damage caused by the attackers at over JD30,000.- The Jordan Times

WTV Station Attacked

I don’t watch this channel, I don’t even know if it’s on my channel list on T.V. I didn’t see the text message, and none of the news reports mentioned what the message contained. So it could have been real offensive. But 30,000 Jordanian Dinars over one stupid message? Is this really how we get to solve our problems? destroy a T.V. station? great... This is just perfect...

Reports mentioned that the tribe made a committee of 7 persons who asked the TV administration for a public apology... And I, as a Jordanian citizen, am asking those 7 representatives for a public apology for their heinous action of destroying a TV station over one stupid text message. SHAME ON YOU.

I just hope serious legal action is taken against who committed such violent acts.

It seems these types of acts will never end.. We had a similar display months ago, here in Mexico.

I can’t believe people would still do this, at this time of human life... this is just ridiculous... but I was thinking, maybe if the law gets harsh on those who attacked the station, people would start learning that these actions are not acceptable, and won’t be tolerated... or they wont learn it, but it’s worth the try...

I have no idea what it was, they wouldn’t mention it in the reports I read... Obviously it was offensive to make a whole family protest the way they did. But no matter how offensive, this shouldn’t be the way they react... I mean for God’s sake, what happened to suing ppl responsible for the message rather than destroying a TV station?!!!
