Iraq :

“The prison is officially open and we have received inmates. Hundreds are present”... This was the statement given by the director general of the reopened Abu Ghraib Prison, Alsharif Al Murtadha Abdul Al Mutalib.

Abu Ghraib, the old prison was closed after the exposure of pictures of American jail-keepers while torturing and sexually assaulting inmates.

The new prison was given a different name: Baghdad Central Prison, and will contain different facilities which are meant to make life much easier for the prisoners. According to Jordan times newspaper dated February 23rd, 2009: The prison will contain medical facilities, a Mosque, a computer chat-room, a courtyard for visiting families, as well as a sewing factory for the prisoners to sew their clothes; All of which being an attempt to erase the memory of Abu Ghraib, and create new memories where inmates are treated like the prisoners of war they are (or at least some of them are).

I am not sure if this plan will work as expected. Some memories cannot be simply forgotten, and some memories should not be simply forgotten, as they will be needed when attempting to analyze any further “criminal incidences” that happen in either Iraq or America.

It is important to remember that “matter does not disappear, it only changes form”... And those memories will come out one day, yet in a different form... I however believe that this form won’t be THAT different from the original one that created it.

Ironically, those were members of the same army that claimed to be in Iraq to free Iraqis from Saddam’s grip, and his long years of torture and humiliation.

P.S.: I tried to choose the least disturbing picture of torture in AbuGhraib prison. The above pictures represents a very small part of what happened there. I just wasn’t able to look at the rest.

How could we forget what happened in that prison and all the torture and abuse poor prisoners went through?
Abu Ghraib is one example of the crimes the USA government committed againts humanity. And God knows the crimes they are still committing against Iraqis now.

Poor prisoners? Prisoners are in prison because they committed crimes.

And I suppose, beheading people isn’t torture?

Wa’D and Almaha,

Just as both of you get very defensive when anyone criticizes Islam, even though we are targeting the extremist and fundamentalist types, we too get defensive when you make a blanket statement about the american people.

When Almaha claims it was the US government that tortured those in Abu Graib, when it was just a bunch of idiot, ignorant soldiers, then yeah... i too will find a need to say something. Please be aware of the distinction.

I never get defensive when u criticise extremists, I get defenisve when u say that these are teachings of Islam based on a lousy translated of Quran that u got God knows where...Please be aware of the distinction...

now back to the subject, the torture that was carried over in AbuGhrain was very much known about by officials (some officials) in the American government, did u not read the news after the scandal? so, r they a bunch of idiots too? and anyways, when u read the article, u chose to redirect the comment to talk about beheadings rather than criticise those bunch idiots, as if the Iraqi prisoners deserved what happened to them....

First ,I’m not someone who generalizes and stereotypes like you. I do not attack all Americans. I only criticize your government like I criticize mine . So do not tell something about me that’s not true unless you can quote something I said to back your claims.
Second, whether you like it or not, your government is the source of terrorism, and if you want I can fill this page with links to crimes your government has committed against humanity. And by the way,If your government’s policy was fair towards Muslims and Arabs, those whom you call extremists and terrorists would not exist.

Yes - its all just horrible the whole damned lot, each side, all sides - man’s inhumanity towards man...... each side is brainwashed or bred and believes - justified into bitter hatered and killing or to torture the enemy or the perceived enemy.
May be just one day, one day when mankind is enlightened a little, and has suffered enough sorrow, blood shed, and pain even a major catastophy - he might be able to looked back through our planets miserable history and say enough is enough.
In a hundred years this will be just another page in earths history book, and we still haven’t learnt a bloody thing!

True Lynne, that’s exactly why I say that we shouldn’t forget what happened there, cz we need to learn from these things, and maybe history won’t repeat itself then,,,MAYBE!!!...
