Peace talks! What peace?

Syria :

Israeli president Shimon Peres urged Syrian government to start peace talks in order to help build bridges between the two countries Syria and Israel, which have been considered enemies for a very long time now.

Peace talks! What peace?

Peres added that Israel has suggested peace talks many times, and thinks it is now time for Syria to talk if they want peace.

Israel and Syria conducted indirect peace negotiations through Turkish mediators last year. But Syria suspended them over Israel’s war in Gaza in December and January. Peres said the Syrians have been trying to get the United States involved as an intermediary in the indirect talks. -The Associated Press

This comes almost a month after Syria announced readiness to resume peace talks with Israel concerning the Golan Heights, and Israel in turn, refused all suggestions to withdraw from the heights. Leaving the question standing as to whether Israel is looking for the kind of peace which abides by the Israeli conditions.

Yeah! This is the reason why you people are turning your children into terrorists. You never talk of peace and if the other person does, you don't trust them.

Wa’d: exactly what kind of negotiations are these when one side demands the return of territory it lost before negotiations start?

Assuming that Israel did so, what is there for Syria to negotiate about?

Did you know that the Golan Heights was part of Palestine, ceded to the French Mandate for Syria in 1923 by the British? Altogether Syria held the Golan Heights for 44 years and did nothing but turn it into an armed camp to fire artillery at Israeli farms in the Jordan Valley whenever they felt like it.

If Syria wants the Golan, they’ll have to prove it by giving guarantees that it won’t be used for the same purpose once they get it back.

By the way... It wasn’t Israel that declared the ”3 NOs” after the 6-Day War, but the Arab League... ”NO recognition of Israel; NO negotiations with Israel; NO peace with Israel” (Declaration of Khartoum, August 1967).

@ Michael...
how are u doing? :)
hmmm... you see Michael, the thing here is, the negotiations did start earlier to the attack on Gaza, but stopped with the attacks ... so when Syria is asking for sthg to happen, that’s bcz there were prior talks about it.. they didn’t just ask that out of the blew...

Anyways, my personal view here. Whether Syria asked for the return of Golan heights before or after negotiations, things will not change, and Israel will not give it back... can we at least agree on this?

u may find Israel’s cause for not giving it back reasonable enough, I may find Syria’s request to have it back as a reasonable request as well. cz we both come from different backgrounds with different things filling our brains. The first step is admitting that... :)

seeyoo around...

Oh and I haven’t responded yet on ur questions on my other post cz I’m way tooo busy, and I’m thinking about writing down my answers as a post...

Its high time that both Israel and Palestine should seriously think over this issue and bring peace to the respective nations.
