Lebanese Elections

I know this article comes like a bit less than a week late, but I wasn’t able to post anything during the last week... So, there you go my views of the Lebanese elections:

Lebanese elections for parliament seats are over, and results are out, revealing the outcomes of 71 seats won by the American-backed-alliance going under the name of March 14 coalition, and guided by the Hariri family, in comparison to 57 seats won by Hizbullah-lead coalition.

The reason behind the current situation is thought to be due to Sunnis standing behind the Hariri family (who are leading March 14 coalition), based on sectarian tendencies, while forgetting the fact that Hizbullah was the party behind freeing South of Lebanon from Israeli occupation. So yes, unfortunately, this is one thing we have not been able to get over: If you belong to a certain group, you stand by and vote for that group no matter what!!! But I guess, by the end of the day, this is called democracy, which, no matter what decisions comes out of, it remains as people’s choice; something that we need to reinforce around the world these days. (Assuming that all the news about people selling their votes are not true :S )

Results came as a surprise to everyone; as even America and Israel expected more seats to be won by Hizbullah, but the results surprisingly came otherwise.

The people chose, Hizbullah accepted the results, and it is now time for March 14 alliance to show that they care more about Lebanon than for the position of being in control of Lebanon.

Personally, I would've liked to have seen a little stronger showing by Hezbollah, but the people there have spoken. Now, I hope that they will cobble together a coalition that is about Lebanon first and the West a distant second

I am not sure if this will ever happen unfortunately, although it sounds like a great idea, but some people will always care more about the power than the people

I think this proved normal Lebanese are no longer intimidated by Hezbollah's guns and grenades.

I don’t think they were ever intimidated by Hizbullah...

personally i think it is better for Lebanon to follow the pro western trend. and how this will effect Israel and the someday state of palistine remains to be seen.
