Lebanese President Michel Sulaiman appointed Saa’d Al Hariri as the new prime minister of Lebanon. Saa’d Al Hariri is the son of the late Prime Minister Rafeeq Al Hariri, and one of the leaders of the US-backed March 14 alliance, which is the coalition that won the majority of seats in the latest Lebanese elections.

Hariri is now expected to form a cabinet from all the Lebanese political factions.
The 39-year-old said he would seek to form a national unity government.
“In line with our commitment during the election campaign in favour of a national unity government in which the main parliamentary blocs are represented... we will begin consultations with all parliamentary blocs,” he said. -BBC News.
It was also reported that Hariri, now in power, has met with Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hizbullah, to discuss the outcome of the election and the possible shape of the new government. Will this be a serious start of a national Lebanese unity, which Nasrallah has been calling for? Or is it just another step into the Lebanese crossroad, from which different parties eventually take different ways.
I truly hope it is the former, as Lebanon has had enough of that political mess, and maybe it is time for some stability over there.
