H1N1 Virus in Jordan (1)

9 cases of H1N1 virus were confirmed in the Jordanian Kingdom. Jordan discovered and announced the first case of infection on Monday, and the number quickly increased to Nine within the relatively short time of two days. Five of the detected cases were on the same flight coming to Jordan from the United States of America. Patients are now receiving medical care in one of the governmental Jordanian hospitals.

The National Committee for the Prevention of Epidemics has been studying options of vaccinations against the virus in case of an outbreak of the flu, while an official announced that 80% of Jordanians will receive the vaccination once it is available in October, all of which seeming as a bit too exaggerated for what is, by the end of the day, a normal flu, which simply needs to be properly diagnosed and treated.

I mean, do we really want to increase the risk of further unknown diseases (i.e.: Autism), which are, still suspected to be due to all the vaccinations that are introduced to children. Do we really want to do that to prevent one flu that could actually be treated like any other flu if enough care is presented? I do understand that this one could cause death if not treated properly, but can’t we find another way of dealing with it instead of just vaccinating everyone?!!! I am sure that if we think harder, we could come up with another solution that is just as beneficial in regards to the flue, yet presents no further health risks.

There is a fascinating book on the subject, but it might just scare the crap out of you right now:

"The Great Influenza: The story of the deadliest pandemic in history"

Greg; Thx for the link, I clicked on it, and read part of the preview... And yes, I do admit it is somewhat scary, but it was far more scary when it first hit, cz now we know exactly how to treat it, we just need to diagnose it quickly and properly, and I just hope we can do that without vaccinating all Jordanians and risking further unknown diseases which remain untreatable till this day.

This is serious, and while there's no reason to panic, a nonchalant, carefree attitude is exactly what this virus needs to go from nothing to possibly killing a million people inside of a couple of months. This isn't fear-mongering it just facts provided by science.

Yes Faris, I am not asking people for a carefree attitude, all I am asking for is one that doesn’t cause more harm, yet solves the problem. How about a better medical diagnostic screening for a start?!!!

are u aware of the risk of vaccines? are you aware that in the more developed countries they don’t even hand in the flu shot that we usually take on a yearly basis here in Jordan, unless ur over 50 or something?

Now THAT is science...

what is concerning me is all the talk about the ”new” vaccine that the entire world must recieve when we still are not able to scientifically grasp or explain how, when, where the virus started, how it is transmitted, why the 20-45 age group is more affected, why women are more affected than men, how and why it is mutating, why the mexican death toll is so incredibly much higher than any other country, etc...

It seems to be putting the cart before the horse...shouldn’t the ”problem” be completely understood before attempting to create a global ”solution”?

Yes Oscar, I find this a bit disturbing as well. I mean, I do think that especially in Jordan, vaccinations are given away somewhat like food, I just think that we need to take our time and research more before we give them to people, cz we don’t want to end up with something more serious!!

I just think we need to relax a bit...Supposedly the vaccine will be ready for mass global dispersment for in autumn, but won’t this vaccine be for the ”current” H1N1 virus?

Supposedly Mexico is going to be hit fairly hard by a SWINE FLU comeback, but of course it will be a mutated form which has adapted..So will this vaccine even work for new strains?

I think I’ll wait..Hospitals have antivirals, if I become ill and it is confirmed to be H1N1, I’ll be treated then, not before with a new vaccine that has been pushed thru as the new global lifeing MUST HAVE.

Exactly, I’d rather get sick and treated, and maybe develop natural immunity, than get vaccinated with sthg that may or may not work, plus risk other health problems, one of which being not giving my immune system the chance to fight on its own.
