Dreams came true this weekend for Jordanians working in the agricultural sector, as weather reports were pretty accurate, and rain fell down, accompanied with occasional snow showers.

This rain was awaited desperately as Jordan was close to declaring a state of drought, had February ended with no rainfall, knowing that December and January (the coldest months of the year passed without an adequate amount of rain, and no snow.

Hopes are, however, that this weekend’s rain is enough to compensate for the past months lack of rain, by boosting the amount of water in Jordan’s major dams, as well as feed agricultural areas with the much needed water which was missed since the start of winter.

Ahmed Koufahi, the executive director of the Jordan Environment Society said that “We need to prepare citizens for the worst. People should not take water for granted, and use it more wisely,” while urging the government to take a serious policy concerning the use of water.
