I went out grocery shopping the other day. I headed to a big supermarket, which is part of a big shopping mall, where you can find all you want, and do not want to see!!!
Walking around the supermarket, I could not help but notice three girls, in their early teenage years, dressed up in clothes and makeup that I would wear to my best friend’s wedding party… I couldn’t help but stare at them, the way they walked, they way they talked, the “please look at me” attitude that covered every single move they performed, and yes I used the word performed, because they were anything BUT natural.

Do I blame them for the way they dressed and the way they acted? I do not know to be honest, but the big part of my mind says that I shouldn’t blame them… as by the end of the day, those girls are the product of families who think they are being “civilized” when they let their 13 or 14-year-old daughters leave the house dressed up like 20-year-olds. They are the product of a lousy educational system that did not allow them enough opportunity to make mature decisions on their own, but tended to feed them teachings and values based on societal and old age myths, without giving them the chance to think for their own. They are the product of a society that has certain rules, some right, and some wrong, yet ones which have to be followed irrespectively, forcing one to doubt all values one was fed through their previously mentioned educational system.
I do understand the fact that in their early teens, girls like to be as “cool” as possible, so do boys, and yes it does usually affect their perception of what’s appropriate, and what’s not. I have done mistakes in my teenage years due to this issue, and I believe that we all have! But the difference is that I had guidance enlightening me with the fact that I don’t need to put chemicals on my face to look pretty at the age of 14. I had guidance telling me that I don’t need to look stunning at the age of 14 in the first place. I had guidance telling me that I am pretty no matter what…
I feel sorry for those young ladies who do not have this kind of guidance in their lives, for those who feel the need to dress up like a Barbie girl in order for them to be good enough for our “cool society”.
Someone needs to spread a different sad but true message to young ladies today: Enjoy your real age, because you will have enough to worry about when you are as old as you are trying to look!
