A Ban on Saddam's Grave

News headlines reported a new law in Iraq banning all organised visits to the grave of the former Iraqi president, Saddam Hussain. The new set ban was released after a videotape captured schoolgirls singing Saddam’s praises at his grave.

This comes as another childish reaction from the Iraqi government towards the former Iraqi government, which attempts to silence people’s voices of respect to someone who lead their country for a very long time, regardless of the controversial opinions of how he lead the country all that time.

I am not saying that I like Saddam, I am not saying that I don’t like Saddam... and this is EXACTLY my point... It is not about me, and what I think. It is not about the new Iraqi government and what it thinks. Visiting a grave or not visiting it is a free choice that people should be able to make regardless of what everyone thinks of the owner of that grave. If I want to go and pray or sing for someone at their grave, then I should be able to do so. This is democracy. And if after this war which the Iraqis had to experience, they still cannot be granted such small but basic freedoms, then I am not sure why the war was started in the first place.

Stop insulting people’s liberties. Stop ridiculing people’s free will. Stop preaching and start acting the words you preach.

Wa’d,for many person Saddam Husein was a hero.If they wants to pay tribute and obeisance at his grave, then who they are to stop them and then whats the use of so called democracy for which the so called war took place.

Exactly Vijay... This is just ridiculous!!! Praying or singing for him at his grave is not going to bring him back, it is simply how people decide to pay him respects after his death. Why can’t they act the things they preach about democracy both sides? cz it is non-sense if we only have a one-sided democracy that chooses to support one opinion and not another!!!

The war against Iraq was never aimed for establishing democracy there. It was just to have a pro America government there. They have nothing to do with the personal freedom of the people.

You are right that praying and singing at the grave of Saddam will not bring him back but his thoughts and ideas will remain alive in the minds of Iraqi people. The real tribute to Saddam will be to establish a government representing his thoughts.

Zardari's confession may create problems for him. He shouldn't have given such statement as he knows very well that he can do nothing to check it.

Wa’d,the whole World is paying the price of American Demon-crazy.
Most of the problems are caused by US.Taliban is a creation of US.The Iran-Iraq war,Gulf War,India-Pak war alls were initiated by US for their own benefit and cause.
With every war America gets a lot, becoz US is the mass producer of most of the warheads.Like medicines, these warheads also has an expiry period and if that lapses, they lose money and even reqiure to spend more money for destroying them.
So the war must go on,thats the only way America can survive.
