Statistic revealed a number of 29 deaths between inmates in Jordanian jails during the last 14 months, knowing that 6 of those deaths occurred during 2009.

A report prepared by the Red Cross mentioned that the reason behind those deaths is lack of proper medical treatment. Mr. Shareef Al Omari -the director of the correction and rehabilitation centres in the public security department- responded that all centres are offering good medical care for all inmates, as each of those institutions contains a clinic to cater for the prisoners needs.
Dr. Mo’men Hadeedi -The head of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine - reported that there is no proper medical care inside jails, and that the number of inmates exceeds what any of those jails could take, which could be an important factor to the current problem. Another important issue is the lack of motivation on the part of medical care workers who feel punished when sent to such institutions, due to bad working circumstances.
